Salamander Genus - Salamandra Laurenti, 1768
The genus comprises 7 species, 4 of which are represented in the fauna of Europe. On the territory of Ukraine, S. salamandra (Linnaeus, 1758) is found. The species is polytypical. Within Ukraine only its nominative subspecies is present - Salamandra s. salamandra (Linnaeus, 1758).

The Genus includes 14 European and western Asian species united into 4 subgenera or genera. On the territory of Ukraine, there are 6 species. Out of the 6 European subspecies of Alpine Triton, in the fauna of Ukraine only one species is registered - T. alpestris alpestris (Laurenti, 1768).

Genus Newts - Triturus Rafinesque, 1815
The Danube Triton, Triturus dobrogicus (Kiritzescu, 1903) is on of the 14 European and west Asian species of this genus. On the territory of Ukraine, it is represented by two subspecies: nominative, Triturus d. dobrogicus (Kiritzescu,1903), which is prevalent in the lower reaches of the Danube and the Dnieper (probably, the Dnister and the Bug) in Odesa and Kherson oblasts, and Triturus d. macrosomus (Boulenger, 1908), which in Ukraine is found on the territory of Pannoniyska lowland, Transcarpathia Oblast.

Genus Newts - Triturus Rafinesque, 1815
It is believed that within its natural habitat the Karelin Triton, Triturus kareliniі (Strauch, 1870), is represented by two subspecies out of which on the territory of Ukraine animals of the nominative subspecies are prevalent - Triturus k. karelinіi (Strauch, 1870). Beyond Ukraine these tritons are characterized by a spacious natural habitat which runs from the eastern part of Balkan Peninsula through the south-western and northern part of Asia Minor, the mountains and forests of Crimea, a larger part of northern Caucasia till Dagestan and the northern (Caspian) part of Iran inclusive.

Toad Genus - Bufo Laurenti, 1768
The genus comprises 255 species which are distributed cosmopolitanly excluding Antarctica, Australia, New Guinea and adjacent islands, as well as the Arctic region. Running Toad, Bufo calamita Laurenti, 1768, is often found in Europe together with two other toad species inhabiting Ukraine: Grey, Bufo bufo (Linnaeus, 1758), and Green, Bufo viridis Laurenti, 1768, Toads. Running Toad is a monotypic species, its habitat is in Central and Western Europe north of the Alps and Balkan Mountains reaching as far as southern Sweden and England, in the east - as far as the Baltic countries and Kaliningrad Oblast, Belarus and western Belarus and western Ukraine, in the south - as far as northern Italy, Austria and the Czech Republic.

The genus comprises 8 species out of which only two are found in Ukraine: Bombina bombina (Linnaeus, 1761), Red-Bellied Toad and Bombina variegata (Linnaeus, 1758), Yellow-Bellied Toad.

RANA (RANA) DALMATINA FITZINGER IN BONAPARTE, 1839 AGILE FROG

True Frog Genus - Rana Linnaeus, 1758
The genus numbers about 235 species distributed on all continents except for the south of South America, a larger part of Australia, Antarctica and the Arctic region. The Agile Frog is one of the 6 taxons of the species range in the fauna of Ukraine. It belongs to the species group of brown frogs, Rana subgenus, which also comprises brown (Rana temporaria Linnaeus, 1758) and piked (Rana arvalis Nilsson, 1842) frogs in the fauna of Ukraine.
