Summary:
Due to high scientific significance of stratotypes and reference sections as objects of basic research, as well as their role for geological education and tourism, it becomes necessary to ensure their safety. To assess the current state of standard sections in the Crimean Mountains, to forecast possible adverse changes in their condition and to develop conservation measures, the authors of this paper performed inventarization and monitoring of stratotypes and reference sections. Some sections are poorly recognizable. The locations of the monitored objects were recorded by devices of satellite navigation. The locations of the standard sections are visualized on Google Earth maps. During monitoring, a collection consisting of 223 storage units was assembled. The collection contains 858 samples, among which 275 are fossil remains. The collection is deposited in the “Geological Museum” Department of the National Museum of Natural History, NAS of Ukraine (# 2520). Data obtained during monitoring are used to describe the Mesozoic stratotypes and reference sections of the Crimean Mountains as objects of geological heritage. The information about the Mesozoic standard sections of the Crimean Mountains is recorded into a specially designed database.
