Summary:
The handbook deals with the history of museology in the countries of Western, Central and Eastern Europe, also in Canada, the USA and Japan. The handbook consists of four chapters: “Periodization of museology”, “The pre-scientific stage in the development of museology”, “The empiric–descriptive stage in the development of museology”, “The theory and synthesis stage in the development of museology”. The handbook contains the analysis of various historiographical concepts of periodization of museology. Basic information about the biography of scientists and a historiographical overview of their most important museological works are given in it as well. The Handbook also shows scientists’ activities on museum organization. It is the first textbook in Russia that based on foreign museography deals with the research on the main stages of emergence, formation and development of museology as a scientific discipline.
