Spatial Distribution of Arrhenatherum elatius (L.) J. Presl & C. Presl. and Elytrigia elongata (Host) Nevski across Striltsivsky Steppe Territory

Gouz G.

Summary:
The article summarizes information on Arrhenatherum elatius (L.) J.Presl & C.Presl. and Elytrigia elongata (Host) Nevski, two of the most numerous invasive plant species found in Striltsivska steppe — a branch of Luhansk Nature Reserve of the NAS of Ukraine. The species were introduced to the area as a result of the human interventions. The loci of these species were previously intensively used for agricultural purposes, and after the expansion of the territory became the part of the reserve. These species penetrate into the steppe and meadow phytocenoses and dominate in some areas. Among the herbaceous non-native species of Striltsivska steppe Elytrigia elongata is the most numerous and occupies the biggest territory. Arrhenatherum elatius is recorded on a much smaller area, but is also very numerous, and spreads on the territory of the reserve faster than the first species. The brief characteristics of the studied species, as well as data on their phytocenotic confinement, spatial distribution and abundance, including a specialized digital map of the spread of these species produced with GIS tools are given.
