Reconnaissance Identification of Functional Zones of the Projected Chornobyl Radiation-Ecological Biosphere Reserve
Рopovуch S. Y.
Summary:
The article deals with the legal basics of functional zoning of biosphere reserves. The level of knowledge about this issue is analyzed for four Ukrainian Biosphere Reserves in the article. The main approaches to functional zoning of biosphere reserves are well-reasoned according to the geosozology methodology, in this regard an original sketch map and legend of functional zoning of the Chornobyl Radiation-Ecological Biosphere Reserve was developed, which is projected in the exclusion zone. Six functional areas were identified and described, four of which are legitimate (reserved, buffer, man-made landscapes and zone of regulated protection), and two are additional zones (the protection regime zone and conservation zone). The functional areas were allocated using principles of the concentric circles construction in polarized landscape, where the center circle occupies a reserved zone, which includes the most preserved ecosystems, in particular mature forests. The other functional zones are placed in the peripheral direction. They are gradually requiring more labile nature protection regime. For the protected zone only the vegetation is characterized.
