Zagorodniuk I., Korobchenko M., Pidhainy M.
Summary:
Search and analysis of samples of the mole vole in the collections of natural museums of Ukraine as well as information about the such samples in the catalogs of museums and scientific publications were carried out. The presence of Ellobius samples collected until 1920, in the collections of the National Museum of Natural Sciences of Ukraine, both the Kherson and the Crimean Regional Museums of local lore is shown. These are two examples from Askania-Nova (1898 and 1903) in the Kherson reg., from the station Tick (1904) and the village Hrushivka (1912) in the Apostolove Dstr. in Dnipropetrovsk Reg., from Simferopol in the Crimea (assumed 1910). Among important samples, there are also 3 examples of the mole-voles from Kyrgyzstan collected in Naryn (1913). Research of the origin and history of these samples suggest the sustainability of old collections during long time, and support the hypothesis concerning the formation of oldest NMNH collection before the creation of the Zoological Museum of Ukrainian Academy of Sciences in 1919. Among key collections there are the Museum of the Kessler Ornithological Society and the Museum of the Ukrainian Scientific Society that ceased to exist in 1918–1921.
